Stan Lee was once jealous because he wasn’t asked to play this iconic Marvel role

Stan Lee has appeared in many Marvel films – but there was one role he didn’t get.



The popular comic book writer and creative director of Marvel Comics has appeared in several of their superhero films on the big screen. Since the early 2000s X-Men Films to the flagpole avenger Marvel Cinematic Universe films; Stan Lee has a cameo here and there in almost all of them. But in an interview with GQ, actor JK Simmons revealed that The comic legend originally wanted to play her role in Sam Raimi’s Spider Man Trilogy.

While analyzing his iconic role as J. Jonah Jameson with GQ, JK Simmons talked about his first meeting with Stan Lee and what he told him about his role in the film. “I had never met Stan and didn’t even know – and this is obvious to anyone who’s really paying attention or smarter than me – that JJJ was somehow based on Stan. The comic book version of himself,” said Simmons. “He confessed to me at the time that, you know, he was a little jealous because they hadn’t asked him to play the role in the film.”

One might think this would lead to some disdain between the actor and Lee, but Simmons said Lee’s reaction was very positive: “‘But after I saw how you did it, I thought you were fantastic!'” And they were, you know, very nice things.
