State Highway Patrol trains 41 new patrol officers

The State Highway Patrol proudly welcomed 41 new patrol officers today at a graduation ceremony from the 163rd Basic Highway Patrol School. The ceremony recognized the accomplishments of our state’s newest patrol officers and their decision to begin a rewarding career serving the State of North Carolina. The ceremony was the culmination of 27 weeks of rigorous training at the State Highway Patrol Training Academy in Raleigh.

The ceremony took place at 10 a.m. at Shephard’s Church in Cary. Eddie M. Buffaloe Jr., Secretary of Public Safety, was the guest speaker and addressed the ceremony attendees. The oath of office was administered by Trey Allen, Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina. Colonel Freddy L. Johnson Jr., Commander of the State Highway Patrol, gave words of encouragement to the new troopers and their families.

“It is admirable that these new soldiers have chosen a life of service to our great state,” Johnson said. “I firmly believe that their work as ambassadors will only further enhance the positive reputation our agency has built over our 95-year history.”

These new state troopers will report to their respective duty stations on Wednesday, September 11th to begin a rigorous field training program. A list of graduates with their assigned duty stations is attached. A photo of the graduating class and photos from today’s ceremony will be available on the patrol’s Facebook page.
