State online auction of surplus property starts today

From August 17-25, a public online auction will sell hundreds of items from the state of Alabama’s surplus property, including used cars, computers, machinery, furniture and more.

Surplus Property, a division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), will conduct the auction through the online bidding site GovDeals.com from 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 25. Items auctioned include surplus government equipment as well as items voluntarily left behind by passengers at several southeastern U.S. airports. A list of the items can be viewed starting Saturday. Here.

Potential bidders may view the items on-site at Surplus Property’s warehouse and grounds at 4590 Mobile Highway in Montgomery from Wednesday, August 21 through Friday, August 23. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Bidders must be registered with GovDeals. For more information on the bidding process, see Here.

Surplus Property typically holds quarterly auctions each year, depending on the amount of surplus items. The Montgomery warehouse and another in Eva in Morgan County sell items year-round to other state agencies, municipalities, counties and qualified nonprofits. Items that do not sell during certain periods are auctioned off.
