Minnesota State Patrol unveils new logo

Visitors to the Minnesota State Fair got a first-hand look at the State Patrol’s new logo design on Monday.

While taking a break from their favorite fried foods, Minnesota residents can get a glimpse into the work of the State Police at their booth on the fairgrounds.

The patrol cars are wide open for people to get a glimpse, but what they see is a change Minnesotans have never seen before.

For the first time in 50 years, the agency assembled a team and designed a new logo that reflects the department, which can currently be seen on some patrol cars.

The reason for the idea was the change of the state flag and seal in May.

“We saw it as an opportunity to really build our own identity,” said Col. Christina Bogojevic of the Minnesota State Patrol.

The old logo had the previous state seal in the front center.

In the new look, red pines line the Mississippi River, which flows through the design and features a North Star at its center.
“It’s a four-pointed star that we’ve incorporated into the Minnesota State Seal,” said Lt. Col. Jeremy Geiger of the Minnesota State Patrol.

State Patrol officials said it will cost at least $4 million to replace everything with the new look, from patches and badges to patrol cars and office supplies.

“We will start with more forward-looking products, such as patrol cars. You will see these in the new design. Then we will turn to uniforms,” said Bogojevic.

The agency must revise over 180,000 elements to reflect not only the state police but also the people it serves.

“I want them (Minnesota residents) to see a reflection of themselves, their community and the Minnesota State Patrol as we all come together and work toward common ground,” Geiger said.

The State Police also mentioned that this is common practice for an agency, adding that departments across the country have designed their own logo that reflects their agency.
