One thing about me? My handbag collection consists of traditional mall finds rather than designer labels – but I’m not mad about it. When it comes to my small but mighty collection of investment pieces, I treat them like a treasure, and that’s because I super I put a lot of thought into every piece I add. Call it girl math, but I’ve worn my larger bags so much that they’ve practically paid for themselves—or so I tell myself. Of the few designer bags in my lineup, there’s one that’s been through the mill the most and has literally traveled the world with me: the Staud Moon Bag ($295). Below, I’ll tell you all the reasons why I love it, what to consider before buying, and more.

  • Staud is known for its high-quality pieces that strike just the right balance between mass merchants and high-end designers.
  • The Staud Moon bag was released in 2019, four years after the brand was founded.
  • It is known for its distinctive crescent shape and minimalist design.
  • It is available in many colors and materials and in three different sizes.

What I love about the Staud Moon Bag is that it is both timeless and unique – a rare combination in the world of handbags. I have the black leather version and it is truly a chameleon piece. No matter what outfit I am wearing, no matter what season it is, this bag complements it perfectly and adds a special touch without overpowering the look. I have probably worn it over 100 times now and it always elicits compliments; more than a few people have asked me where it is from.

Another thing I like about the Staud Moon Bag is its price point—while $295 is still an investment, it’s much more affordable than typical luxury designer bags. It’s also the perfect size for my essentials: phone, sunglasses, a few lip products, hand sanitizer, wallet, and keys—everything I need for a night out or a daytime errand. Plus, it has two magnetic flaps on the inside that you can lift and place on top of each other for extra security, so the top isn’t always completely open.

I am also in love with the details, from the white contrast stitching that perfect subtle visual accent from the luxurious suede lining and interior zip pocket for small essentials. The top features a removable Staud embossed accent that stays in place with snaps. I never take it off because I think it just adds to the appeal of the bag.

I’m not lying – the interior of the Staud Moon Bag isn’t the most spacious due to its unique shape, so it doesn’t offer a lot of room. While the size is fine for me personally, it’s probably not ideal for those looking for a roomy handbag that can fit the essentials and then some.

And while this bag has been my chic travel companion for years, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for sightseeing in a new city since the top is relatively open. I’m the type to take risks (if you’re a criminal, I’m definitely lying) and I haven’t had any problems, but I can understand how it might make others think twice.

Finally, packing it can be a little tricky. Its structured shape doesn’t compress easily, so you’ll want to be careful not to change its shape. Despite that, it generally fits in my suitcase, as I fill it with soft items like tank tops or t-shirts to maintain the structure.

Whether the Staud Moon Bag is worth the money is ultimately a matter of personal preference. For me, it’s a clear yes. I’ve been a fan of Staud’s clothing for some time now and I can assure you that even after years of wear and my less than gentle packing habits, the bag still looks like new. Plus, the black colorway goes well with everything and adds a playful touch to my outfits thanks to its half-moon shape.

The Staud Moon Bag is available on the brand’s website and on Amazon with one-day Prime delivery options.
