SVU Season 26 Update Hints at Rollins’ Disappointing Future

Summary

  • Law and Order: SVU
It is unlikely that Amanda Rollins will return to full-time play on the Season 26 team.
  • Olivia Benson finally has a full team after staffing issues arose following the departure of Rollins and other temporary detectives.
  • Rollins could still have guest appearances in
    Law and Order: SVU
Season 26, however, as a guest star.

Law and Order: SVU recently released a casting update that includes disappointing news about Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish). Rollins was part of the series from seasons 13 to 24 and left the series halfway through its final season. Since leaving the series to become a teacher, she has made several guest appearances, the last of which seemed to set up a return. Because of this and her close relationship with Mariska Hargitay, there was widespread speculation that she would be part of the Law and Order: SVU Team of season 26.

Rollins’ departure was one of the saddest Law and Order: SVU episodes in recent memory. Although she was anything but a model employee at first, she and Benson developed a close friendship. Naturally, Benson was devastated when Rollins left to take a teaching position, so when Rollins quit her teaching job and joined a Manhattan SVU case, it seemed to open the door for her return. Rollins’ return was never guaranteedespecially since the episode ended without Rollins being reinstated. Still, it’s disappointing that Rollins isn’t included in Benson’s new team.

Why Kelli Giddish’s exit from “Law & Order: SVU” is controversial (and bad)

Kelli Giddish’s character Amanda Rollins will be leaving the show in season 24 of Law & Order SVU and fans are (understandably) not happy about this exit.

Benson had many staffing problems after Rollins’ departure. Six months after Rollins’ departure, newbie Grace Muncy (Molly Burnett) left the unit, and during the second half of Season 24 and all of Season 25, the Manhattan SVU captain had a rotating team of temporary detectives from Bronx SVU. Many of these detectives only stayed for a few episodes. The majority of the detectives who came and went were female, which gave the impression that Law and Order: SVU tried to find the perfect replacement for Rollins and chased away the failures.

Law and Order: SVU Season 26 promises to reverse that trend, as Benson now has a full team. Not only does Bronx SVU alumnus Bruno (Kevin Kane) become a permanent part of the team with Benson, Fin and Velasco, but a new female detective also joins the team. This gives Benson four permanent detectives to work with, meaning that the job that Rollins could have taken on at her last appearance is now most likely filled.

Can Rollins still appear in season 26 of Law & Order: SVU despite Benson’s team?

No guest appearances have been announced yet

“Law and Order; SVU”s Rollins made several guest appearances since the character has left the force, there’s no reason why she couldn’t return in that capacity. She’s still married to Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino), who works as the lead ADA on various SVU cases. This leaves open the possibility that Rollins will come and go as the story requires. Although the show hasn’t announced any guest appearances for season 26, it’s possible that Rollins could return again sometime later this year.

Rollins is a popular figureso it would be a mistake for Law and Order: SVU Season 26 to eliminate her completely. It doesn’t look like she’ll be a series regular, although star Hargitay hopes the show would reverse its decision to write Rollins out. Guest appearances are better than nothing, though, and those are likely in the new year.
