Snail has launched a new group ordering feature on its platform that allows up to 40 customers to place orders at once and add different items to a single shopping cart. This feature is designed to make it easier for groups to order food together, especially for parties or get-togethers.

Swiggy announced the launch in a LinkedIn post, highlighting the early success of the feature. The company shared that 6 percent of all orders were made through group orders in the first weekend after the feature was released. Interestingly, the largest group using the feature so far consisted of 17 people, which Swiggy said must have been “quite a fun little party.” The company also revealed that the average order value for group orders was 3.7 times higher than regular orders.

Before this update, customers ordering as a group had to use a single device to select their food. Now, Swiggy users can share a link or QR code to create and fill the same cart simultaneously. Swiggy said the feature was introduced to solve what it called a “party problem” and that it is designed to help increase average order values (AOVs), a key metric for measuring a business’s performance.

Interestingly, Swiggy’s competitor, Zomatointroduced a similar group ordering feature on August 17. Zomato users can now easily add items to a shared cart by sending a link to their friends. Deepinder Goyal, Co-founder and Group CEO, Zomato, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the feature will be rolled out to all customers in a phased manner. He encouraged users to try it out at their next house party and share their feedback.
