According to dpa information, the suspected Syrian who is said to have carried out a knife attack in Solingen should have been deported to Bulgaria last year.
According to the provisions of the Dublin Convention, the EU country into which an asylum seeker first enters is responsible for processing the asylum application. According to the dpa on Sunday, the Syrian-born man entered the European Union via Bulgaria.
The newspaper “Die Welt” reported that the deportation order from Germany to Bulgaria had been postponed because the man had gone into hiding in Germany. Months later, he resurfaced and was subsequently transferred to Solingen.
The man confessed to police that he had carried out the knife attack on Friday evening in Solingen, in which three people died.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the case and is investigating the suspect for murder and suspicion of membership in the terrorist group “Islamic State”.
