All things new Terminator Stories are about to begin, as Dynamite Entertainment just announced at San Diego Comic-Con that it will be launching a brand new comic book series with writer Declan Shalvey and artist Luke Sparrow – and fans should be very excited. Not only does this new series promise to breathe new life into the franchise with different perspectives and one-shot stories in each issue, but Shalvey has already proven that he is the perfect writer for the job, as he perfectly defines the theme that “the heart of the franchise“.

In an interview with Dynamite Comics, Declan Shalvey explains what fans expect from the upcoming Terminator Comic series. One of the first revelations was that this Terminator The series will not focus primarily on John Connor, Sarah Connor or Kyle Reese, but will be more like an anthology, with a different Terminator terrorising new victims in each issue. Declan Shalvey: That’s really the core of the franchise: it’s about people and resisting the impossible.

Shalvey is aware that the original Terminator The film wasn’t just about the horror of a killer robot from the future or the action/adventure that this plot detail provides, but also about the relationship between Sarah and Kyle. Against all odds, Sarah and Kyle fell in love, which is an optimistic reminder that even in a franchise full of machines, humanity is still very much rooted – something Shalvey will bring to this new comic series.

If this interview isn’t proof enough that Declan Shalvey is more than capable of delivering a fantastic Terminator series, fans only need to look at his previous work with another classic sci-fi/action/horror franchise: extraterrestrial. Shalvey was the writer for 20th Century Studios’ extraterrestrial Vol. 3-4 and even took the opportunity to introduce a new breed of Xenomorphs to the franchise, in an exciting (and terrifying) new world in extraterrestrial Myth.

Even if you don’t consider Alien as further proof that Declan Shalvey’s new Terminator Series will be an exciting addition to the larger mythos, this interview is proof enough of that, as it clearly shows that Shalvey understands what elements make a great Terminator Action by perfectly defining the theme, namely “the heart of the franchise“.
