Hurricane Ernesto made landfall in Southampton Parish, Bermuda early this morning with a central pressure of possibly as low as 970 mb, reaching record levels for previous hurricanes. As Ernesto continues to impact the region, large waves are reaching the east coast of the US. Wave periods may be as long as 12 seconds, much longer than the usual 6-12 seconds on calm days, posing a significant hazard to coastal areas.
