Cutthroat
I have special preferences when it comes to my Call of duty, and what does Modern Warfare III The great thing is that it has that certain something that I enjoy, no matter how big my team is.
If I go online with just a friend, we can join some Duos Resurgence matches or play some Gunfight matches. Or we can join some random players in multiplayer and work on stealths or challenges.
If I have a group of three people, we can play Trios Resurgence or – even better – Cutthroat, a new mode introduced in this Call of Duty that I have more fun than Gunfight and even more than Search & Destroy, my favorite MP mode. Cutthroat is the perfect FPS mode and I beg Activision and Treyarch to bring it back this year. Black Ops 6.
In Cutthroat, three teams of three compete against each other on regular MP maps. When a team member is knocked down, you have a set amount of time to revive them. If you die, you won’t be revived until the next mode. The goal is to kill the other teams or capture the finish flag at the end of the game, similar to Gunfight.
The difference is that in Cutthroat you choose your own equipment, instead of the prescribed equipment in Gunfight. However, I think that with a little more attention, Call of Duty could easily add a forced gear variant or even a tournament or ranked version of Cutthroat.
What makes this mode so good is the asymmetric tactical combat. With three teams, you have so many different ways to approach each battle. Do you go hard and try to destroy one team so you can face the next – or do you let the other two teams duke it out, decimate their numbers and finish them off at the end? You’ll often have to think quickly because it’s really easy to get caught between two teams. Each map presents a new challenge depending on your spawn location.
It is absolutely the most fun I have ever had with Call of Duty for ages. I used to be a fan of Gunfight mode, which is excellent, but Cutthroat is even better. It would also be relatively easy to expand BlackOps 6, because it can use all standard maps, unlike Gunfight, which needs smaller maps to really work (while Cutthroat can work on some of these smaller maps, it’s better on medium or larger maps, since there are 9 players instead of 4).
Anyway, this is my request to the powers that be at Call Of Duty HQ – Activision, Treyarch and now Microsoft: Cutthroat is a great game mode. I would buy a game that only had variations of Cutthroat. I like other modes. I enjoyed the nice win in Ranked Resurgence that my trio got last night. But I like Cutthroat better and I hope they find a way to get it into the game. BlackOps 6 and don’t let it die after just one trip.
