The Color Purple – The Musical will be performed at the Marietta Theatre on the Square

The colour purple Published in 1982, the novel consists of letters written by Alice Walker. It was nominated for 11 Academy Awards but did not win a single one. It was also nominated for The Author won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1983 as well as the National Book Award for Fiction. In 1985, Spielberg produced the groundbreaking, award-winning film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey. Believe it or not, the film won four Golden Globe Awards and Goldberg won Best Actress in a Drama. The American Film Institute ranked the film 51st on its list of most inspirational films.

In 2005, the Broadway production, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, was acclaimed and received 11 Tony Award nominations. Last year, the Broadway musical was made into a film.

This year our district theatre The Marietta Theater on the square brings the musical “The Color Purple” to life! Emil Thomas, the theater’s artistic director, recently completed his theater studies and talks about his desire to learn more about his craft.

I asked Thomas about his production of the story “The Color Purple,” which has been retold by many creative minds over the years. He says that he focused on the storytelling in the musical production. He talks about the talent that will be on stage in this production. Recently, a young actor from the Marietta Theatre in the Square made it into a Broadway production. Thomas talks about the talent available in community theaters.
