The Democratic National Convention surpasses the MAGA Convention’s viewership on television, streaming and online platforms

The Democrats achieve a total of over 108 million views on television and streaming and over 350 million views on social media

The 2024 Democratic National Convention drew huge television and online audiences across all four days of programming as Democrats brought the story of the Harris-Waltz campaign to the American people. The fourth and final night of the convention featured Vice President Kamala Harris, who told her own story and laid out her vision for a new way forward from the United Center stage.

“While Donald Trump frets about his (low) prime-time ratings, Democrats have formed a caucus that prioritizes reaching people where they are. For the first time in history, we have used vertical streaming, digital excerpts and content creators to share our story and extend our reach to households across the country,” said Matt Hill, senior communications director at the Democratic National Convention“This week, tens of millions of American voters heard the story of how the Harris-Waltz candidacy is fighting for their families, their freedoms and their futures – eclipsing the audience that tuned in to the RNC to hear the story of Trump’s extreme and unpopular ‘Project 2025’ agenda that would set the country back.”

Transmitted:

  • On television, the final night of the DNC attracted an estimated 26.2 million viewers on 15 networks.
    • The DNC outperformed the RNC on all four nights, with an estimated total viewership of 87.2 million over the course of the week.

Streaming:

  • On the DNC/Harris-Walz online platforms, the Democratic National Convention collected 21.3 million views over the course of four days.

Digital content:

  • The Convention received 350 million views – and the number is constantly growing – of content created by partners during the four days of the conference.
    • For the 2024 Democratic National Convention, over 200 content creators were accredited to cover the convention on-site and hundreds more to cover it remotely, reaching a combined 500 million followers.
  • More than 400 users, including 206 developers and 64 keynote speakers, used a microsite to download DNC content and use it on their own platforms.
    • Over the course of the week, creators used more than 3,000 pieces of content and had the most downloads and shares compared to any other group.

Democrats are reaching new audiences and taking the message of the Harris-Walz ticket to Americans wherever they get their information. As part of our effort to expand our reach to voters across the country, the Democratic National Convention offered Americans more ways than ever to watch and engage through streaming on over a dozen platforms. For the first time in convention history, the convention also hosted vertical streams across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, in addition to streaming the convention online on a variety of platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, TV device apps like Apple TV and Roku TV, and traditional television broadcasts.
