AST SpaceMobile has announced that its first five commercial satellites, called BlueBirds, have arrived at Cape Canaveral, Florida, ahead of their scheduled launch into orbit during a 7-day launch window in September.
The BlueBird satellites feature the largest commercial communications facilities ever deployed in low Earth orbit. With an impressive footprint of 64 square meters, this represents a technological leap forward for AST SpaceMobile to deliver seamless cellular broadband connectivity to billions of mobile users worldwide.
Building on the success of the BlueWalker 3 satellite, AST SpaceMobile’s first five commercial satellites will have ten times the processing capacity. This advancement sets the stage to bring global space-based mobile broadband directly to everyday smartphones, starting with non-continuous coverage of the continental United States using over 5,600 cells in premium low-band spectrum.
