The “lousy” color of the iPhone 16 Pro proves how unexciting the iPhone has become (or does it?)

The date is now set and the iPhone 16, iPhone16 Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be unveiled on Monday, September 9.

And while I’m convinced that Apple (as usual) has managed to keep some exciting secrets from us, thanks to numerous leaks, we may already know exactly what the new iPhones might look like.

Disappointing or not, the iPhone 16 Pro The models are expected to resemble slightly larger versions of the iPhone 15 Pro series. But like every year, there is a truly “new” iPhone that only looks new because it comes in a color that wasn’t available last year.

As you can see, this year seems to be the year of the good… old… gold iPhone. Or as Apple is reportedly calling it: “Desert Titanium” – which sounds healthier than “Dessert Titanium.”

People say the new brown and gold color of the iPhone 16 Pro is literally “awesome” – but that doesn’t bother me at all

I think I’ve just realized something, and that’s that I might be a fan of warmer colors in phones. My two favorite phone designs (color scheme included) are the Pixel 6 Pro in “Sorta Sunny” – I used this for about a year and probably stared at the back more than the screen – the name gives away the warm, friendly look.

The second is the “Amber Sunrise” Huawei P30 Pro, which I (unfortunately) never owned – I had the boring black model. But this phone made me want more orange phones – although it did look bright red under certain lighting conditions.

With that in mind, I now know why I am rarely excited to see a blue phone, and why the leaked brownish-gold iPhone 16 Pro seems like it could be my new everyday car.

Apple relies on nostalgic fashion notes – the gold color of the iPhone 16 Pro looks like a reminiscence of the iPhone 5S from 2013

To get one thing straight: The nerdy side of Twitter/X made it clear very quickly that the new iPhone 16 Pro The paint looks… like something you leave in the bathroom when you forget to flush the toilet.

I was never a fan of Apple’s version of the “Rose Gold” iPhone/MacBook – I thought it looked awful – especially the way rose gold was combined with the metal casing of the iPhone 6 and 12-inch MacBook. For the record, I thought the pink iPhone 8 looked amazing – but that was “Rose” on glossy glass – not metal/frosted glass. But my favorite version of the “gold” iPhone are by far the iPhone 5S (which I owned, but in silver) and the gold iPhone 14 Pro. And from what I see in the leaked renders, that’s iPhone16 The Gold Pro version is more like the “old but gold” (pun intended) iPhone 5S and I’m all for it.

You know the iPhone has become super boring when a new color gets you excited about the new iPhone

While I’m all for the return of the gold iPhone, I have to take a slightly different perspective on the “new iPhone color” that caught my eye pretty much immediately after I saw it…

And that seems to be the case every year, but it’s especially relevant now that Apple is sticking with a similar design for the sixth year in a row.

Of course, you could argue that it’s so easy for Apple to get people excited about the new iPhone that even a single new color option is enough. But that’s not how I (the phone nerd) see it.

However, when companies like Google put at least a little effort into giving their new phones a fresh look (in the case of the Pixel 9, that’s with a new camera bar), and phone makers like Xiaomi and Oppo literally go out of their way to make their phones look like real point-and-shoot cameras – with a round camera island and real leather… then I think Apple gets away with it here.

And you know that the only reason Tim Cook & Co can afford this luxury is because there is no other iPhone. Like it or not, Apple has no (iOS) competition, while Android brands have to compete with a dozen other Android brands.

But anyway… This is a wrap to my balanced view of the New-Old iPhone 16 Pro Color…
