The Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is closing in July. Here’s what happens next.

After more than three decades in business, the famous Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is closing its doors.

The Las Vegas Strip company announced the closure Wednesday evening, according to a social media post, noting that the Nevada property will soon “transform.”

“We look forward to beginning an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas lights up the Strip with entertainment, innovation and world-class hospitality,” the Mirage, which opened 34 years ago, posted on Facebook.

The Mirage will cease operations on July 17, the post said.

“A new era”

The hotel is known for its artificial volcano, the Mirage, which has been spewing fire and water since it opened in 1989.

It is also home to a Cirque du Soleil show featuring Beatles music as well as Siegfried and Roy’s white tiger show.

Hard Rock Las Vegas is coming soon

The company announced that the resort will reopen as Hard Rock Las Vegas in 2027.

“We look forward to beginning an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas lights up the Strip with entertainment, innovation and world-class hospitality,” the casino said in a Facebook post.

Hard Rock will pay nearly $80 million in severance pay to union and non-union employees who continue to work for the company until the closure, the post said.
