The new trailer for “The Rings of Power S2” is dark

A new trailer for season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released this morning. The darkness is indeed about to spread! This trailer focuses heavily on the dark power of Sauron and the war and destruction he brings to Middle Earth. At 2:14, it’s a full minute shorter than the previous trailer, but it still packs a punch.

Check this out:

Some first reactions from Greendragon employee

Wow, that’s a strong trailer! This season is definitely Sauron’s show; there’s hardly anything idyllic, Shire-like, or even Elvish beauty to be seen in this trailer.

0.01 I like this “dissolve into black” they’re doing with the Prime logo this season.

0.14 Sauron with the many faces…

0.23 That was a bit of a “PJ Helm’s Deep” moment. (To be honest, I guess it’s more of a “medieval war” moment…).

0.26 Don’t be too stingy with the bling, Gil-Galad!

0.29 The implication for S2 seems to be that we are meant to wonder if Galadriel has been corrupted/is under Sauron’s influence. (Robert Aramayo hinted at this in a remark during the Hall H panel at SDCC: Elrond loves Galadriel and believes she is a force for good, but also has his doubts.)

0.41 I can’t wait to see how the dwarves story develops in season 2. Such a great cast.

0.57 I can’t wait to see Sam Hazeldine in the role of Adar. He’s going to be great.

1.03 A flashback? Back in Valinor? (Any chance for some more Finrod…? One of my favorite little cameos in S1!)

1.26 I always love seeing a Balrog. I still wonder what he’s doing there…

1.32 Oooo Ciaran Hinds!! I can’t wait to see him. Clearly one of the Maiar – but who…?

1.36 What’s going on here? Does Tom have control of the fire torch? He doesn’t look worried; the stranger does look quite frightened, though.

1.49 I can’t shake the feeling that the Harfoots won’t play a big role in Season 2.

1.51 Dewoman!

1.55 Arondir has a Legolas moment.

1.59 Yes, we are definitely supposed to think that Galadriel might be under Sauron’s spell.

There’s a lot of spooky stuff in this trailer (including those revenants, at least one troll, and another glimpse of Shelob). Evil in Middle Earth is gathering! I’m less interested in these kinds of effects than I am in the actors and how they bring the characters to life. So the highlight of this trailer for me is this glimpse of Ciaran Hinds. What a great addition to this ensemble.
