“The Power Fantasy” No. 1 sold out… again! • AIPT

Image Comics has Kieron Gillens and Caspar Wijnagaards The power fantasy #1 is sold out again, and new copies are being reprinted in a hurry. The need for additional supplies of the debut issue of this series has led to an equally rare, second reprint before publication – a feat that Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples have achieved with their similarly sensational saga No. 1, second printing.

“The response to the book has exceeded all our expectations and even gone beyond,” Gillen said. “The only thing stronger than our cast is the resilience of our printers, who are desperately trying to produce enough copies to meet demand. We applaud them and their noble fight. They are the true heroes.”

Wijngaard added: “I am absolutely overwhelmed by the support the series has received after just the first issue and we are only just getting started. Thank you very much.”

AIPT has plenty of coverage leading up to this highly acclaimed series, including an interview on the AIPT Comics podcast, a written interview, and an in-depth look at one of the main characters. Don’t miss our review of the first issue, either.

Early praise for The power fantasy:

“I can tell after just a few pages whether a book will last – whether the writing is good, whether the art is good and whether it will find an audience. However, when I read the end of the first edition of Power fantasy I knew I was looking at the better version of it. A book constructed with artistry and nuance and a care that borders on obsession. This is a good book, folks, and I highly recommend it.” —Jonathan Hickman, X-Men, The Black Monday Murders

“The first issue’s breathtaking climax takes an already great book into the stratosphere. A must-read comic from two of the absolute best in the business.” —James Tynion IV, The Ministry of Truth: Something is killing the children

“It’s intense, yet understated and gripping. Full of potential for drama, intrigue, nuance, depth and meaning. The power fantasy is ready to make superhero comics explode.” —ComicBook.com

“If you like comics full of big ideas, spiced with black humor and the unsettling feeling that the end of the world is just a family quarrel away, then this one is for you.” —GamesRadar

“A brilliant opening issue that offers a much-needed new take on a tired comic genre cliche. Kieron Gillen’s script is complex, intelligent and deeply engaging, offering the most intelligent take on super-powered beings in years. Caspar Wijngaard’s visuals are stunningly detailed, finely directed and wildly colorful, which together make for possibly the best debut comic of the year so far.” —Monkeys fight against robots

“Thought-provoking and dynamic at the same time, with outstanding art. 10/10” —Comicon.com

“A rich and rewarding story about existential questions when super-powered gods walk among us… In a world where nuclear war is still a possibility and wars rage overseas, The power fantasy feels timely and appropriate.” —AIPT

The power fantasy is the strong favorite for the title of Indie Book of the Year. Kieron and Caspar are working hard to build something big and important, and the end result is as ambitious as it is beautiful and captivating. Order it today. Trust me.” —Matt Rosenberg

“What I like most about science fiction is that I The power fantasyis when people are thrown into extraordinary circumstances that overwhelm them, and yet must make decisions that will decimate or save the grand, intimate abstractions… like humanity or time itself. One discussion in this story will determine the rest of the future, and NO, this is not a series without kinetic visual action. It will get you there, and when that happens, the moment is EARNED. The struggle is horrific, and it’s not the worst possible option. The power fantasy is… I think a relevant exploration of how many decisions are made to save us from the worst possible outcomes, despite thinking we’re already in the “wrong timeline.” That’s something I’ve never asked myself, and the question is compelling. I want to know the answer. You’re going to show me, and as a lover of character journeys, I’m willing to pay cash to be taken along. This may also just be something damn cool, and I don’t want to miss the conversation!” —Joseph P. Illidge

“My reaction to The Power Fantasy #1: and desperately wonder what the creators would accept if they told me what happens next in return.” —Charles Soule

“I read the first issue and it is, not surprisingly, extraordinary. In an annoying way. An elegant narrative missile that rides the slipstream of superhero expectations and arrives with a jarring impact, with all the pieces fitting together perfectly.” —Jed McKay, Moon Knight, Avengers

“A phenomenal debut with everything you love about comics. Great story/art/letters/design and my favorite colors in a long time. The Power Fantasy is an epic that will rock comic shops.” —Gerry Duggan, X-Men

The power fantasy does for superhero comics what Saga did for sci-fi. Offers great characters, a damned catchy hook and the best illustration of Caspar’s career. This will be the start of something BIG.” —Christian community

“It’s just breathtaking, the story is incredible and the art is just PHENOMENAL. Congratulations guys, it’s just beautiful.” —Lucas Werneck, Immortal X-Men

“Kieron sent us issue No. 1 of The power fantasyand it is, as expected, incredible. It exudes a quiet confidence, the first chapter of what is clearly intended to be a graphic novel. And Caspar’s rise to comic godhood is progressing apace.” —Aditya Bidikar, The Ministry of Truth, Worldtr33

“I had the opportunity to read the first issue and it is incredible. The story is deep and we want to know more, the characters are original.” —Margaux Saltel, Le Royaume d’Après, Star Wars Adventures

And Caspar rocks in a totally different way that will still resonate with you. This is the new greatest hits collection.” —Paul Cornell, Saucerland

“Read this first issue again – this is a book you don’t want to miss! Kieron and Caspar have teamed up for the next hard-hitting take on modern superheroes that is as dynamic and provocative as the modern world that speaks to us all.” —Steve Orlando, Scarlet Witch

“You already know you should buy everything Kieron writes. I don’t have to tell you. But here’s a reminder.” —Joanne Starrer, Total supplex of a heart

“Great depictions of superpowers are quite common, but The power fantasy is something altogether bolder and more convincing: an ORIGINAL interpretation …” —Alex Paknadel, All against all, carnage
