The SkyBeach Hotel is the hotspot of the St. Pete Open this weekend

The world’s largest spearfishing tournament is taking place in St. Pete this weekend, coinciding with one of the region’s hottest new destinations. The SkyBeach Hotel & Marina, which opened just this summer at 6800 Sunshine Skyway Lane South, is the weekend’s hotspot for St. Pete Open fans and anglers, thanks to a jam-packed schedule of specials and events.

The acclaimed new hotel is a destination in itself. Set on crystal clear waters and a beautiful white sand beach, it features a massive pool, a beachfront SkyBar tiki bar, great food and drink, shopping, live events and more. This weekend, they’re going all out to welcome the 59th Annual Spearfishing Tournament back to town.

We’ll cover more events below, but perhaps the best deal is the special discounted day passes this weekend. The $40 pass (normally $50) not only grants you access to the pool and beach, but also includes a $40 food and drink coupon from SkyBar and the in-house Salty Pelican Kitchen. So if you plan on eating and drinking by the water on your afternoon (and who doesn’t), the day pass is practically a free pass to one of the city’s most scenic new spots. Day passes can be purchased in person at the SkyBeach Hotel or SkyBar.

And if you really want to be in the thick of it, you can stay the entire weekend. The SkyBeach Hotel is offering discounted room rates from 8/14-8/19, providing easy access to all the action and amenities at the beautiful new resort. Use code STPETEOPEN2024 to receive 15% off all guest rooms this Wednesday through Monday.

Live music with a view of the beach and the sunset

Of course, what we love about SkyBeach and SkyBar is that the beautiful grounds have become one of the best (and certainly most scenic) live music venues in the city. It’s hard to beat intimate performances on the beach with a drink in hand at sunset.

Luckily, SkyBeach has music scheduled day and night for an entire weekend, so the party continues even after fishing. The highlight is Tru Phonic’s performance on the sand on Saturday night from 6pm to 10pm, a show you really can’t miss. And to make it even better, entry to the beachside concerts at SkyBar is completely free – you don’t need a day pass.

Other live performances this weekend include:

  • 15.8. (Thursday) Michael B. 6pm-9pm
  • 16.8. (Friday) Shawn Sheller Trio 6pm-9pm
  • 18.8. (Sunday) Ed John 1pm-4pm

If you are thinking about staying or are curious to visit SkyBeach for a day, we definitely recommend reading our opening report. A taste of what to expect: “SkyBeach is truly a new shining beacon in town and, as the name suggests, a connection between heaven and earth. And while we expect many out-of-state travelers to book a suite here, SkyBeach is also perfect for a local’s stay. As the slogan goes, SkyBeach is “all St. Pete. All yours. Where doers and dreamers go to get away from it all…”‘”

For more information, visit skybeachhotel.com. And while you’re there, be sure to stop by Atlas Body + Home’s local men’s and women’s boutique, which just opened at the SkyBeach Hotel.
