The star of “Rings of Power” says he is always cast in “scary” roles

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark has spoken about her career, noting that she is regularly cast in “scary” roles.

The star, who plays Galadriel in the Prime Video series, rose to prominence in 2019 for her role in the psychological horror film Saint Maud, before her reputation in the genre grew through roles as Mina Harker in the BBC series Dracula and the upcoming Starve Acre.

Speaking to The Guardian, Clark spoke about her habit of portraying eccentric and quirky characters, explaining: “It’s quite humiliating to keep being cast in the role of a really crazy person.

“I didn’t know I was giving off that. And almost anything that involves a kiss, it’s like, ‘It’s a really sad kiss.’ But it’s interesting that I seem to have this slightly creepy, sinister vibe about me that works for things like that.

“These characters are so much fun. I’m really glad that I got to play not only scary but also pretty gross female characters. Maud is really quite gross and does pretty weird things too, but you feel so free when you do that.”

Clark, who also had a small role in His Dark Materials, spoke more extensively about her feelings about her career, noting that despite the surprise of her current success, she still harbors some doubts.

“It still feels very surreal. It’s weird being in your thirties too. You’re still evolving as an actor, of course, but you’re a little bit like, ‘Oh, it happened. I guess I’m here now.’ Weekly (doubts), possibly. Still, actually. That’s just part of being an actor. No, I’m deeply neurotic and think it’ll be over tomorrow.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 will be streamed on Prime Video. Season 2 starts on Thursday, August 29th.
