The upcoming Akron City Festival brings the community together and celebrates youth

AKRON, Ohio – The City of Akron celebrates the new school year with the second annual Akron City Festival on Sunday, September 1.

The festival will take place from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Akron on Bowery Street next to Lock 3’s Backyard. Highlights include a parade, DJ, games, basketball, face painting, fashion show, cheerleading show, magic show, food vendors, game trucks and bounce houses, according to the city.

“The Akron City Festival is a great way to bring our community together and celebrate back to school for our students,” Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said in a press release. “We want to kick off their school year with a fun, celebratory event that sets the tone and puts them on the path for a joyful, successful year. This event is fun for all ages and will help strengthen our students and our community.”

The parade begins at 1 p.m. and includes student athletes, extracurricular clubs and youth organizations. The parade begins at Main Street and Rosa Parks Drive and travels along Main Street, turns left onto Bowery Street and ends at the Lock 3 Backyard Stage.

The festival begins after the parade on Bowery Street. The festival schedule is as follows:

2pm – Cheerleading show

3pm – Fashion show

4 p.m. – Magic show

5pm – Talent show

The festival is hosted by Night Lyfe Entertainment and presented by the City of Akron, with support from Akron Public Schools, Lock 3 and Downtown Akron Partnership.
