These are the 10 hardest SAT vocabulary words for Wisconsin residents

While students perceive that summer is here to stay, schools have provisional Start dates in the calendar, and the academic year 2024-2025 is imminent.

For many, standardized testing is one of the most dreaded, yet most memorable, parts of school. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, standardized testing has become less common, and numerous colleges continue to offer test-free admissions. Still, studying for the ACT, SAT, and AP exams remains a big part of the schedule of teens, especially those with their eyes on the top-ranked colleges in the country.

As another class of Wisconsin high school students begins preparing for those exams, crossword puzzle experts WordDB.com have released a study designed to measure the difficulty of each word listed as an answer option in the Reading and Writing section of the latest SAT practice tests. To do so, researchers evaluated how frequently residents of each U.S. state searched Google for the definition of 257 words that appear on six SAT practice tests.

Here are some of their key findings:

  • The most commonly searched SAT words in Wisconsin include “nuanced,” “manifest,” and “antecedent.” These are also the three most commonly searched words nationwide.
  • On average, one in 86 Wisconsin residents searches online for the definition of an SAT word each month.
  • “Nuanced” was the most searched SAT word in America, with nearly 134,500 searches per month.
