THUNDERBOLTS* Comic-Con Trailer Analysis – Everything Revealed in the Leaked Teaser (Including The Sentry)

Thunderbolts* While the cast isn’t the same as in the comics, it’s easily one of Marvel Studios’ most exciting upcoming films. The film is set to hit theaters next summer, and the prevailing theory at the moment is that this team will eventually be revealed as the Dark Avengers (hence the asterisk).

Marvel Studios has not Thunderbolts* to D23, but the first trailer premiered at San Diego Comic-Con last month. Now, nearly a month later, it’s leaked online and the reaction from fans has been overwhelmingly positive.

While the preview is mostly action scenes, there are also some big reveals that we take a closer look at in this feature. From The Sentry’s MCU debut to what brings this team together, there’s a lot to get our teeth into, and this film has all the makings of a must-see.

6. A family reunion

The Thunderbolts* The trailer begins with Yelena Belova tracking down her father, Alexei Shostakov. It seems like not much has happened in his life since we last saw him. Black widowalthough he has finally made a home for himself in America.

“There’s something wrong with me” Yelena tells her father. “An emptiness. I’m just drifting around and have no goal. I thought throwing myself into work would be the solution.”

As she says this, we see the former Black Widow making short work of various people she was presumably supposed to kill (which means Yelena was probably still an assassin after the events of ). Hawkeye). Could a team fill the void in their lives?

5. “The Fall of a Hero”

During Yelena’s voiceover, we also meet John Walker at home. He now has a child, and as he sits by her crib, he reads a news article on his phone titled “The Fall of a Hero: The Story of John Walker.”

In The Falcon and the Winter SoldierJohn was named the new Captain America, but became increasingly confused and eventually took the Super Soldier Serum. However, he also murdered one of the Flag Smashers, leaving him no choice but to give up his mantle and shield.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine later made him her “US agent,” but whether the world knows this is unclear. Bucky is now a congressman, but seems similarly unhappy with his situation.

4. An unexpected first meeting

We then see Yelena breaking into a mysterious facility. As she explores the facility, a US agent appears and tries to gun her down, leading to a fight. The assassin is saved by Taskmaster, and Ghost also shows up, appearing to be on John’s side.

This appears to be the first time this team has crossed paths, and it is confirmed that they were all “sent” there. After Yelena points out that they have all done bad things and someone wants to get rid of them, the facility is suddenly put on lockdown.

A one-minute timer begins counting down and things aren’t looking good for them; did an unknown enemy orchestrate the deaths of these four or could this have something to do with the mysterious new figure they encounter?

3. Bob

Before the lockdown begins, Yelena, US Agent, Taskmaster and Ghost meet Lewis Pullman’s Bob. He was not sent there and apparently he was held there before everyone left.

Of course, we know that “Bob” is Robert Reynolds, also known as The Sentry. The world’s most powerful super soldier has an inner darkness called The Void, which makes us wonder if the apparent disappearance of the scientists and agents who once manned this facility is the work of the villain.

Should these four save Bob, kill him, or just bring him back? We don’t know, but a little later in the trailer we see his iconic Sentry logo on a belt buckle, confirming that he will be suiting up. Bob is also confronted by a multitude of armed guards, but their hundreds of bullets have no effect.

2. Val returns

Bucky attends a fancy party that includes Loki’s scepter from The Avengers, and keeps an eye on Val, the CIA director who has seized Wakanda’s Vibranium reserves and sent Yelena Belova to kill Hawkeye.

At this point her voice takes over: “We grow up believing that there are good and evil. But at some point you realize that there are evil… and worse.”

The entire Thunderbolts team, including Bucky and Red Guardian, confront Val in a building that may or may not be the Avengers Tower. Is this the place where she reveals that she was responsible for bringing them together as a team? Their own team, say, Dark Avengers?!

Yelena doesn’t seem thrilled to be reunited with her anyway, but the trailer makes it seem like Val will be an Amanda Waller-style character, manipulating these wannabe heroes from the shadows.

1. New costumes

Well, the Thunderbolts don’t look like the ones you see above! Each of the characters has a new costume in the film, with Ghost and Taskmaster undergoing the biggest changes. The latter no longer hides her femininity and now wears a white, skull-like mask.

Ghost, on the other hand, wears an all-black suit with a sleek white helmet that doesn’t have much in common with what we’ve seen in the comics. Yelena isn’t too different from previous appearances, while U.S. Agents’ suit has only undergone a few minor changes.

Bucky isn’t wearing anything too exciting – he does stick his arm in the dishwasher once, though – and Red Guardian’s suit was shown off at Comic-Con. Is this the best costume design we’ve seen in the MCU? No, but the aesthetic is pretty consistent from character to character. We just hope The Sentry doesn’t go down that Black Ops route.
