BOSTON – The WBZ Weather Team has issued a weather advisory for heavy downpours and thunderstorms for Monday, August 26. Storms will likely occur in the late afternoon or early evening hours. The main weather hazards are localized flooding, gusty winds and some hail.
All of Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island are included in the severe weather risk zone on Monday. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight threat for severe thunderstorms in central and eastern Massachusetts. The yellow highlighted map shows a Level 2/5 threat, which includes Boston.
We expect a drier start to the day on Monday, with little to no problems for morning rush hour traffic. The major period for storm development is between noon and 9 p.m. The chance of severe storms increases between 2 and 7 p.m.
These storms can bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and small hail. There is also a risk of localized flooding in areas normally prone to persistent rain. However, all of these weather hazards are expected to be minor to moderate.
The chance of rain will decrease rapidly during the night from Monday to Tuesday. The extended weather forecast includes isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures will rise to over 30 degrees by Wednesday and fall to over 21 degrees by the end of the week.
