TLC concert at NYS Fair canceled; performance likely not to be rescheduled

Geddes, NY – TLC’s concert on Friday at the New York State Fair has been canceled.

Tionne Watkins, known as T-Boz, is suffering from food poisoning, state fair officials said in a statement.

The group was scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. at Suburban Park, but they never made it onstage for soundcheck.

At 7:30 p.m. a message appeared on stage that the concert was cancelled.

“Unfortunately, tonight’s TLC performance has been cancelled due to T-Boz’s serious illness. We wish her a speedy recovery,” the message said.

The trade fair management was informed of the cancellation shortly before 7 p.m., said trade fair spokesman Sean Farnsworth.

Farnsworth said the fair has not received any word from TLC about rescheduling the performance, but with Suburban Park booked solid for the remainder of the fair, it is unlikely they will get the opportunity to do so.

“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Farnsworth said. “We wish T-Boz a speedy recovery.”

TLC canceled shows in New Brunswick and Ontario, Canada, in early May this year after tour members came down with the flu.

TLC was one of the most popular music groups of the 1990s, mixing pop, hip-hop and R&B.

The group attracted one of the 25 largest crowds in NYS Fair history in 2022, with 30,000 people, at what was then called Chevy Park.
