Toast to Virgo Season, by Holiday Mathis

The sun is moving into the part of the zodiac whose call is hard to fulfill. Still, it’s time to try. Here’s to Virgo season, the time of year when we all pretend we’ve got it together! Cheers to organizing our chaos, perfecting our imperfections, and making plans we might actually stick to – at least until next week!

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You will see poetry in the most mundane things and express them in ways that are either profound or profoundly silly, whichever is better. The more you appreciate, the more you will find to appreciate.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). “Being yourself” is not the kind of dream you should wait to fulfill. How can you spend more time doing things that make you happy? How can you make this a daily practice?

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You’ll be inspired by teammates who are working just as hard for the group prize as you are. Their commitment will spur your own. Together, you’ll find innovative solutions and celebrate shared victories. Camaraderie makes the journey as worthwhile as the destination.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Wishing for something you can’t have is notoriously a cause for distress, although it can still be rewarding because you don’t really know what’s possible until you dare to wish for it. Courage is rewarded somehow, if not always directly.

LEO (July 23-August 22). The worst searches are the ones where you look for things you already had but that somehow got away from you. Even if there isn’t exactly a treasure hunt on the agenda today, at least try to find something much more interesting than your keys.

VIRGO (August 23-September 22). People think ignorance is acceptable when it comes to babies, but they judge when adults make decisions they should have known not to make. However, life holds many complex lessons, and not all of them are taught in the expected way. Your compassion is both justified and helpful.

LIBRA (September 23 to October 23). You sense the equality of all people and feel deeply connected to everyone. However, you have to make a decision. You cannot focus on everyone. You have to decide who gets your time. Don’t hesitate, make your decision quickly.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21) You don’t tend to give or receive flattery, if only because you prefer everyone to put their egos aside and get straight to work. Flattery, however, comes naturally because you’re surrounded by people who genuinely fascinate you.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22-December 21). Bored people tend to misbehave. Your challenge is to avoid trouble by keeping things interesting for everyone, especially yourself. That’s always a good place to start, because if you’re intrigued by the situation, others will be too.

CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19). You can leave an uninspiring environment. If it’s not a place you want to adapt to, you’ll plan to go somewhere more charming or exciting. Even if you have to make sacrifices to get there, it will be worth it.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18). Your high standards will influence the day. You will ask excellent questions and figure out how to get more out of the situation so that everyone benefits.

PISCES (February 19-March 20). Just because you’re close to someone doesn’t mean they know how to treat you. Some of your loved ones don’t know your preferences yet, but you smile and accept the well-intentioned failures.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (August 22). Your heart is playful. A magical existence seems to seek you out at every turn. Other highlights: Making connections on an intellectual level will be your forte. You will share your observations, perfect your presentations and associate with the powerful, doing the work you find interesting. You will get going and make a lot of money in the process. Capricorn and Scorpio love you. Your lucky numbers are: 5, 18, 22, 28 and 3.

CELEBRITY PROFILE: One of literature’s greatest minds, poet Dorothy Parker worked for Vogue and Vanity Fair before contributing to the early days of The New Yorker. Born under the sign of Leo, this jazz-era author was born when the Sun and Mercury were in entertaining Leo and lucky Jupiter in verbose Gemini. She famously advised, “Take care of the luxuries and the necessities will follow.”
