Today’s daily horoscopes: August 19, 2024

It’s so normal to want to pursue things like perfection, acceptance, and happiness, even though these are exactly the kind of delicate pursuits that you can never quite capture. As soon as you touch them, they get a little out of reach. The Sturgeon Moon suggests that we completely trade the energy of “seeking” today for the energy of “living in something” that is always happening right now.

ARIES (March 21 – April 19). There’s no need to focus on the shame of unrealized goals, past mistakes, or current shortcomings. You can make better use of your courage by focusing on what’s going right and well. You hold the key. Free yourself.

BULL (April 20 – May 20). Your time and attention are precious and you will figure out how to best use them. When you know what is important, you won’t have to worry about what isn’t.

TWINS (May 21 – June 21). You have seen a lot, but you are not jaded. That is the beauty of your spirit, a spirit that remains open and curious. Who else benefits from your optimism? Everyone close to you, because your perspective lights the way.

CANCER (June 22-July 22) Responsibilities are heavy. Some feel heavier than lead. But if you don’t hold yourself to the highest standards, who will? Your commitment to excellence will keep you strong and make you a person of integrity and resilience.

LION (July 23 – August 22). Greatness has little to nothing to do with perfection. In fact, things that are “too perfect” are widely considered uncool. Your greatness will come in a less than perfect form. Be proud and enjoy the applause.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22). Problems take up mental space, and solutions make room. The real trick is to protect that space and build something purposeful there instead. If you don’t, a new problem will present itself.

SCALE (Sept. 23-Oct. 23) You stand where your fellow travelers stood. A feeling will come over you. The smooth stones beneath your feet tell stories of countless others who all faced their own decisions, bringing to your attention the choice before you.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21) Those who do nothing will not be criticized as much as those who regularly put themselves in danger. Soften the feedback by giving yourself more credit for having the courage to take the initiative. Your courage is admirable and should be praised.

PROTECT (November 22-December 21). When you choose who you want to hang out with, you are, in a sense, choosing who you want to be. People learn things from those close to them. The company you keep will influence you in tangible ways.

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19) You’ll be improving your lifestyle in ways that will touch several other areas of your life throughout the season, so never underestimate the power of small, loving gestures.

AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18). Avoid competitive people today. Their secret mission to outdo you will become your mission, Be Your best. It’s more fun to be around nice people who stay relaxed and bring a spark of playfulness to the scene.

FISH (February 19-March 20) While arguing is exhausting, it is less exhausting on both sides than on the middle position, which strives for diplomacy and neutrality. On one side at least, you know where you stand and what you are fighting for.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (August 19). You will create, live and tell many stories in the coming months. Exciting periods are tempered by periods of calm. A pleasant rhythm develops between extremes. Stress melts away as you focus on making yourself – your life, your environment – a nurturing place where the riches of your soul grow. Cancer and Capricorn love you. Your lucky numbers are: 15, 30, 31, 13 and 8.

PROMINENT PROFILES: We celebrate the memory of our beloved friend Matthew Perry on the occasion of his return to the solar system. Before his untimely death, his recently released memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, received rave reviews as a humorous and insightful retelling of his life. Perry’s natal Moon and Neptune in private Scorpio suggest this act of transparency cannot have been easy, though fans and loved ones are now happy to have this intimate record of his journey.
