Tommy DeVito has confidence in himself as roster cuts loom

Is Tommy DeVito worried about his place on the New York Giants roster?

With cuts to the 53-man roster looming, one of the big question marks is whether the Giants will keep three quarterbacks on the roster. If the Giants decide to stick with two, DeVito would be the odd man out, as they would likely try to get him through the waivers and get him back on the practice squad.

The second-year quarterback appears confident as the final roster cuts before the start of the 2024 season are just days away.

“I don’t know if the word ‘worried’ is the right one. I think I’ve always had confidence. I’ve always tried to go out every day and do my best and do my best on the field every day,” DeVito said Thursday. “Whether it was last year or this year, it doesn’t matter what happened. Because last year was last year. It’s in the past. We’re moving on to what’s here now. I just have to go out every day to practice and games and just keep trying to improve and become a better player.”

“It’s not in my hands”

DeVito knows the decision is not his.

“It’s not my decision. It’s out of my hands. For me, it’s just about every time I step on the field, continuing to step up and show why I proved to myself in the first place that I belong in the NFL somewhere,” DeVito said. “Honestly, I want to be on the Giants (inaudible), but when I’m out there on the field, I just keep trying to go out there and get better every game and every day.”

The Tommy DeVito Show on Saturday?

Since most of the regular players (on both teams) are not expected to play in Saturday’s final preseason game, DeVito will likely play the entire game for the Giants.

Although there is no definitive answer yet, DeVito knows he will be ready when it’s his turn.

“I haven’t been told yet, but once I know, I’m always ready,” DeVito said. “That’s part of the job when you get in there, you never know what’s going to happen. That’s what I dealt with last year when I was the next man up. Whenever Dabs tells me I’m ready, I’m going to be out there and play.”
