Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette intensifies rehab after injury and talks about bad season

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette will be back with the team Tuesday night when the Jays face the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. He is taking the next step in his rehab from a calf problem and has been on the field catching ground balls and completing workouts.

There’s no official word yet on when Bichette will begin rehab games, but logic suggests he’s probably close to going on a rehab assignment. He’s been out since shortly after the All-Star break with a calf problem. Overall, it’s been a terrible year for Bichette, who is batting just .223 with four home runs. He’s been on the injured list multiple times and has played in just 79 games.

The Blue Jays, who have made the playoffs each of the last two seasons (and three of four), have been one of baseball’s bigger disappointments. Despite winning six straight games, they currently sit in last place in the American League East.

According to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet, Bichette said he has learned from how he has handled his health this year.

“I think the way the season has gone and how many times I’ve hurt it, I obviously wasn’t aware of it enough at the time, even though I really tried. I’m just trying to be as smart as I can, but I’m happy with where it is right now.” #BlueJays Bichette

Bichette will be a free agent after the 2025 season, so there are numerous rumors that the Jays may trade him in the upcoming offseason.
