Toronto Blue Jays star takes another big step in recovery from injury on Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays star Bo Bichette took another important step toward returning to the team on Thursday. Bichette had been out since shortly after the All-Star break due to a calf strain.

According to MLB.com’s Keegan Mattheson on social media:

Bo Bichette started running in Dunedin, says John Schneider.

He will join the #BlueJays in Boston and accompany them throughout the trip while preparing for a rehab assignment.

The Blue Jays are in last place in the American League East and are just finishing the season, but it’s still nice to see. Bichette had a terrible season, battling multiple injuries and hitting just .223 with four home runs, so a return and positive momentum would be a welcome development.

The question regarding Bichette is whether he will even be in Toronto next year. He is a free agent after 2025, and reports have surfaced that he will not re-sign with Toronto after his rookie contract expires. If that is the case, will the Jays opt to trade him and prioritize signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr.? Although he had a down year, he would likely be coveted on the transfer market.

After a win on Thursday, the Blue Jays are 60-68 this year. They return to action Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch from the Rogers Centre is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET, when Chris Bassitt gets the ball. He is 9-12 this year with a 4.34 ERA.

The Angels are 54-74. They are in last place in the American League West.
