Trip.com Group highlights ESG progress and key actions in latest report

SINGAPORE, 29 August 2024 /CNW/ — Trip.com Group has released its annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, outlining its actions to ensure progress toward a more sustainable future for the travel industry and create positive long-term social impact.

The Group’s fifth ESG report is structured around four main focus areas (Community, Family, Environment, Stakeholders) and reflects its activities over the last reporting period in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and reaffirms the priorities of its ESG framework.

Community friendly

Trip.com Group’s community-friendly goals aim to support rural prosperity and ensure traveler safety, including through partnerships with local communities and organizations. The Group’s key focus areas include improving local employment opportunities, contributing to public wellbeing in key villages, strengthening tourist villages at scale, and training rural tourism professionals. The Group undertakes these initiatives to support the achievement of the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, including goals such as ending poverty (SDG1) and promoting sustainable economic growth and decent work (SDG8).

With the aim of promoting local social and economic development, the Group continues to invest consciously and actively in the community, including by engaging almost 100% of local suppliers for its Trip.com Country Retreat in ChinaThe Group also aims to ensure that the profits generated from this economic activity benefit the local community, including through the creation of 20,000 indirect jobs and by giving priority to the employment of local talent.

In addition, Trip.com Group’s global Travel SOS service, which helps ensure global travel safety, has expanded its coverage to over 440 million passengers, handled more than 20,000 inquiries, and achieved a resolution success rate of 98%.

Family friendly

Trip.com Group continues to work to establish itself as a leading family-friendly travel company, including through key initiatives to support working parents. The company is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace through comprehensive and equitable employee welfare policies that provide equal opportunities for advancement and development for all, with a focus on women’s empowerment.

The Group seeks to minimize the challenges employees face in balancing work and family life. To do this, it improves workplace benefits and creates a family-friendly environment, for example. It also aims to introduce a solid management system for a healthy working environment that meets global standards.

In recent years, the Group has focused on promoting employee well-being through a hybrid working model implemented in 117 offices in 39 countries. The initiative is estimated to have saved 900,000 hours of commuting time and benefited 60% of families with children.

Trip.com Group is proud of its progress towards gender diversity, equality and inclusivity, as evidenced by its recent updates: women make up 57.5% of the workforce, including 61.4% of entry-level positions, 43.5% of middle management positions and 32.5% of senior positions. Over 60% of recently promoted senior managers were women with children.

In addition, the company has successfully implemented its company-funded childcare allowance for 541 employees, with almost 100% of female employees returning to work after parental leave.

Environmentally oriented

The Trip.com Group recognizes the essential connection between nature and people that lies at the heart of the travel experience. The Group firmly believes that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility of the industry and is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by providing lower-emission travel options to travelers worldwide.

In line with this goal, Trip.com Group has joined the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) and aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition, the Group aims to introduce over 10,000 lower-carbon travel products and encourage 100 million travelers to consider lower-carbon travel practices. These goals aim to increase environmental awareness among customers and employees.

Progress includes offering consumers additional lower-carbon travel products to choose from from 2023, such as lower-emission flights and electric cars (see our 2023 ESG report for more details). carbon The data also covers 96% of flights, 56% of car rental services for leisure travel products and 98% of transportation services for business travel products. In total, Trip.com Group has provided over 72 million travelers with access to lower-emission travel alternatives.

In addition, Trip.Biz, the business travel division of Trip.com Group, received recognition by being awarded the EcoVadis Sustainability Silver rating, outperforming 85% of companies participating in the same rating system. Trip.Biz launched its carbon management products, which allow corporate customers to allocate carbon budget quotas for different departments, reflecting the company’s commitment to providing more opportunities for more business travelers to travel more sustainably.

Stakeholder-friendly

Trip.com Group remains committed to maintaining transparent corporate governance and, among other things, works with stakeholders to ensure customer privacy and information security while encouraging the adoption of more environmentally friendly options throughout the supply chain.

The Group actively encourages and supports its suppliers to direct their efforts towards more sustainable practices. It has also taken steps to ensure compliance with these principles in all aspects of its business, including by establishing an ESG Risk Management Committee during the last reporting year. It has also taken care to create awareness and compliance across the company, including through security and data protection training, which was completed by 100% of employees and took on average almost 39 hours per person.
