Donald Trump carried what appeared to be a thick folder to his press conference on Thursday in Bedminster, New Jersey. The former president mostly read from a script and barely made eye contact with attendees and reporters. He spoke about the obvious economic setbacks the U.S. has experienced under the Biden-Harris administration. The 78-year-old also spoke about the illegal immigration plaguing the country.

In response to Trump’s reading from a script, one social media user said: “Trump’s confused, energy-less speech where he can’t even read from a script is PANIC!”

“Man you have nerve… Trump can never read from a script or he’ll freak out!!!! HAHAHA,” added another on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Painful to watch. Low energy. Reading from a script. Trump is in his Las Vegas phase,” tweeted a third person.

Donald Trump spoke from a podium surrounded by various food items, claiming that the cost of things like groceries and car insurance has risen. The Republican candidate attacked President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy and even called Vice President Harris a “radical leftist.”

The former president added that Harris’ economic policies had “completely failed and really caused a disaster in our country.”

“You don’t have to imagine what a Kamala Harris presidency would look like, because you’re living through this nightmare right now,” he said. “Harris just declared that fighting inflation will be a priority from day one… Day one for Kamala was actually three and a half years ago. Where was she?”
