T’way Air flight from Singapore to Incheon delayed due to safety inspection

T’way Air’s flight from Singapore to Incheon was delayed due to a problem with the aircraft’s safety inspection, the Korean low-cost airline said on Sunday.

T’way flight TW172 departed Singapore’s Changi Airport for Korea’s Incheon International Airport at 2:15 a.m. with 285 passengers on board, but returned to the departure point 55 minutes later for safety reasons, company officials said.

After an inspection, T’way determined that the aircraft, an Airbus A330-300, was not immediately airworthy and sent another aircraft from Korea to Changi Airport as a replacement.

The replacement flight is scheduled to depart Changi Airport at around 11pm, resulting in a delay of approximately 21 hours.

T’way said it had offered TW’s 172 passengers an overnight stay at a hotel near Changi Airport and planned to pay additional compensation for the incident.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by an unexpected security check,” an airline official said.

In June, the low-cost airline was ordered by Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to take measures to resolve repeated safety issues and flight delays following a series of international flight delays.
