Twitch streamer’s spelling mistake causes the platform to change its name

Twitch streamer “herokerrey” managed to get the platform to change its name as a joke after he accidentally misspelled the website during a charity broadcast.

Herokerrey is a partnered variety streamer and Just Dance player with over four thousand followers on Twitch, where she broadcasts part-time alongside her full-time job in technology.

On August 22, Kerrey (real name Kelley) started a charity stream for APAMSA (Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association).

To encourage her viewers to donate, Kelley offered to write their names on her body with a marker if they donated $5. Little did she know that the very platform she was streaming on would be among those donors.

After sending some money to her stream, Kelley tried to follow through on her promise to write “Twitch” on her forehead with a blue marker – but ended up writing “Twith” instead.

When Kelley realized her mistake, she burst out laughing… but that was far from the end of the “Twith” saga.

Shortly thereafter, Twitch took advantage of the joke and updated its profile picture on Twitter/X, changing it to a font similar to Kelley’s handwriting on a purple background.

“I can’t believe Twitch came by and donated to my charity stream last night and I spelled her name wrong,” she wrote in a tweet.

“Just be glad it’s not a permanent tattoo,” the company responded. “I have ‘Amason’ tattooed on my leg.”

The whole situation made for a humorous and wholesome moment that went viral, prompting Kelley to take things even further. She has since started a petition in hopes of making “Twith” a global emote on the streaming platform.

As of this writing, their Uservoice petition has 193 votes and Twitch—er, Twith—still has the misspelling as its profile picture on Twitter.

Commenters across the web are calling the humorous situation “the funniest thing” they’ve seen on the internet in a long time. In an exclusive statement to Dexerto, Kelley told us she’s just glad her spelling mistake was able to brighten her viewers’ day.

“I’m so happy that this silly moment made so many people smile, and next time I’ll think of my AB-s!” she said.

This is one of many viral moments that have popped up on the app recently, including the moment streaming star Kai Cenat discovered that a child had stolen his mother’s credit card to donate $11,000 worth of subscriptions to his channel.
