Two injured in turbulence on EasyJet flight to London Gatwick, which was forced to make emergency landing

At least two people were injured on an EasyJet flight from Corfu to London when the plane encountered severe turbulence. The pilots of the Gatwick flight had to make an emergency landing in Rome with around 181 people on board.

The two injured were members of the cabin crew who were about to serve food on board when the chaos broke out, MailOnline reported.

They were reportedly thrown against the sides of the plane, prompting the pilots to decide to make an emergency landing.

The aircraft was hit by turbulence just 20 minutes after takeoff while flying at a speed of about 770 km/h at an altitude of 8,550 meters.

The incident occurred as severe storms hit southern Italy and just hours after the Bayesian superyacht capsized after being hit by a tornado off the coast of Sicily.

An EasyJet spokeswoman told the Mail: “The flight on 19 August experienced turbulence which unfortunately resulted in injuries to two members of the cabin crew.”

“The captain then decided to divert the flight to Rome, where the flight attendants received medical treatment.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet’s top priority and our pilots are trained to deal with turbulence.”

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
