United Airlines confirmed Tuesday that a flight from San Francisco International Airport to Rome was diverted in Sacramento due to a mechanical problem.

United said Flight 507 landed safely and that it was working to re-escape passengers for the flight to Rome.

The airline did not provide any information about what the problem was, but only said that the flight was diverted so that the problem could be resolved.

According to United, there were 148 passengers and 14 crew members on board the Boeing 777.

United’s website shows that the plane departed SFO at 4:26 p.m. and arrived at Sacramento SMF airport just before 6 p.m.

There have been updates on the FlightAware website regarding the ongoing departure delay of the flight from SMF back to SFO. The latest information shows that Flight 507 has been delayed more than five hours and is en route and expected to arrive at SFO at 10:36 p.m.

KCRA released a video feed of the SMF tarmac showing passengers and crew disembarking the aircraft.
