VA hosts social outreach stand-down in Colorado Springs this week | Military

The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System is hosting a Warrior Fest on Friday with nonprofit organizations that support veterans.

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Social Connection Stand Down focuses on areas such as mutual support for mental health issues, suicide prevention, holistic health care, recreational therapy, vocational rehabilitation and homeless assistance.

Additionally, over 15 community organizations plan to participate, including Comeback Yoga, Team RWB, Red Rocks Cohen Clinic, Mount Carmel Veterans Center, Remount Foundation Equine, Project Healing Waters, Monster Garage and more.

The event is part of the VA’s upstream approach to suicide prevention, a press release said.

“We want to reduce risk by building resilience through social connections, meaning and purpose,” said Dr. Brittany Musicaro, clinical psychologist and local recovery coordinator. “But as an adult, it’s not easy to make new social connections or find nonprofits that might be of interest to you. That’s why we’re bringing all of these resources together in one place, with one goal: to find your people.”

The free event will take place Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at John Venezia Park, 3555 Briargate Pkwy. in Colorado Springs.
