Vallejo police arrest suspect in July 16 murder – Times Herald Online

Vallejo police have arrested a suspect in connection with a July 16 multi-vehicle crash and shooting that left 48-year-old Sharmell Mitchell, the older sister of Willie McCoy, who was shot and killed by police in 2019.

The investigation into Mitchell’s murder identified Jacoby Etter, a 46-year-old Rancho Cordova resident, as responsible for the city’s 13th homicide of the year. On Wednesday, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Etter.

On Thursday, Vallejo Police, in conjunction with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team, conducted a successful operation in the 4300 block of Malana Way in Rancho Cordova, where Etter was arrested without incident.

After his arrest, Etter was booked into the Solano County Jail on murder charges.

The arrest came about three weeks after police responded to an accident involving injuries after gunshots were reportedly heard near the intersection of Tennessee Street and Vervais Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers observed a collision at the indicated intersection involving three vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz ML350, an Isuzu Trooper and a Kia Soul.

Officers discovered Mitchell lying in the street, suffering injuries consistent with an accident. Mitchell was taken to a local hospital and died on July 19 after life support was removed.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Wesley Pittman at (707) 334-1274 or [email protected] or Detective Jarrett Tonn at (707) 648-5427 or [email protected].
