Valspar’s Color of the Year 2025 is an encore

Last year, many paint brands chose blue as their color of the year for 2024, and it looks like this shade isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Leading paint and coatings manufacturer Valspar has chosen Encore – a solid, honest, deep blue shade – as its color of the year for 2025.

This shade is a subtle but notable contrast to the brand’s 2024 color choice, Renew Blue, a calming blue with undertones of green and gray. “Last year’s blue was a continuation of the introspective mood people wanted to experience at home as they sought colors of healing, comfort and relaxation rooted in nature and well-being,” said Sue Kim, director of color marketing at Valspar MarthaStewart.com. “Inspired by mist and haze, Renew Blue 8003-37D was introduced to reveal the anchoring ultramarine blue Encore 8002-45G. This is a grounding and familiar blue full of joy.”

While Renew Blue acts as a beautiful accent color, Encore serves as a grounding shade that’s versatile enough for any space and application. Its deep blue tones have the luxury of Old World design without straying too far from modern. “This makes it an ideal backdrop to ground a room and leave room for spirited pops of color in complementary colors,” says Kim. “Encore’s versatility means it can also shine on its own through playful applications indoors and outdoors, such as on wood, patios or concrete pavers.”

Encore can be used in many areas of the home. Achieve maximum hue through color drenching by applying Encore to every detail of a room—including the walls, ceiling, trim and baseboards. Or use Encore as an accent color on the outside of your home by pairing it with mid-tone woods on siding, Kim recommends. “To carry the style of the interior outside, any Valspar paint product can be tinted this color by staining concrete floors and painting exterior siding and trim this moody blue,” she says.
