Viral TikTok video explains FAA fines for flight attendants for passenger noncompliance

Summary

  • Flight attendants face a $10,000 fine if passengers fail to comply with regulations
  • Fines may be imposed for any violation committed by a passenger on board an aircraft.
  • Undisciplined passengers or passengers who ignore safety instructions face higher fines, legal action or even driving bans.

According to a viral trending video posted by an American Airlines flight attendant on TikTok, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) could impose fines of up to $10,000 on flight attendants if passengers don’t follow the rules. In the same post, the flight attendant urged passengers to follow crew members’ instructions, regardless of their previous flying experience.

A hefty fine

Over the years, there have been numerous reports of undisciplined passengers or air travelers getting into trouble with the airline or aviation authorities for not following flight rules. But did you know that flight attendants can also be punished for passenger behavior?

An American Airlines flight attendant named Keana posted a video on TikTok explaining that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) can fine flight attendants up to $10,000 if passengers fail to follow rules or instructions on board an aircraft.

Since the flight attendants on board an aircraft are primarily concerned with the safety of the passengers and the flight, it is important that all passengers follow the instructions of the crew members.

When it comes to instructions like fastening the seat belt, placing a bag or lifting the tray tables, Keana explains in the video:

now I don’t care that the last flight attendant didn’t ask you, they didn’t care about that fine. I care about that fine, so I’ll ask every time.

For each violation

In the post, Keana additionally states that the fines imposed are up to $10,000, but also explains that this fine can be imposed for any violation that take place on board the aircraft. Yes, individual fines that can be up to $10,000 for each violation.

It’s worth noting that, according to the TikTok post, the FAA can impose fines for any violation “while on board.”

It is therefore essential that all passengers listen to the flight attendant’s instructions and follow the rules. After all, the flight attendants on board the aircraft are primarily responsible for the safety of the passengers.

Higher fines for passengers

While crew members can be fined if passengers fail to comply, passengers who do not follow the rules face consequences from the authorities and the airline. Depending on the level of disruption caused, passengers may be fined, have legal action taken against them, or even be banned from flying.

According to a report in the New York Post, data from a recent study in the United States suggests that around 32 percent of passengers find it acceptable to ignore flight attendant instructions.

Therefore, it is important for passengers to remember that every rule and safety instruction is for the safety of passengers and is deemed necessary based on past incidents or experience in the aviation industry.
