Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays continues to make history in 2024

The Toronto Blue Jays lost 6-3 to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night at Fenway Park. The loss ended the Jays’ winning streak and dropped them to 65-69 on the season. The Red Sox improved to 68-64 and are now 4.0 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the battle for the third and final wild card spot in the American League.

Despite the loss, Blue Jays hitter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had another productive day at the plate, striking out 2 for 5 and hitting a double. The double was his 37th of the season and put him tied with Rafael Devers on that historic list.

It’s been an incredible comeback year for Guerrero Jr. He’s batting .322, has 27 home runs, 87 RBIs and an OPS of .956. That’s even more impressive considering his running mate Bo Bichette hasn’t brought any cushion to the lineup this season. Additionally, Guerrero Jr. has had excellent performances in July, although his name hasn’t been mentioned in transfer rumors. He won’t turn 26 until next spring training.

The Blue Jays will face the Red Sox again on Wednesday night, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. ET when veteran right-hander Chris Bassitt pitches against Bryan Bello.

Bassitt is 9-12 with a 4.41 ERA, while Bello is 11-6 with a 4.95 ERA.
