Volleyball demonstration goes the full distance

OMAHA, Nebraska. — Creighton Volleyball’s annual blue-white practice match went down to the wire and then some, as the white team fended off a match point and won the fifth set 16-14, securing the 3-2 victory. The scores of the match in favor of the white team were 25-16, 26-24, 21-25, 23-25, 16-14.

The comeback came one year after the blue team fended off five match points in a 20-18 win against white a year ago.

Sixteen different players were used at times on both the blue and white sides as the Bluejay team changed lineups for the regular season opener on August 30 against NC State. Assistant Head Coach Brian Rosen trained the white team, while Angie Oxley Behrens led the blue troop.

In the decisive fifth set, the blue team led 13-10 before white came back and tied the score at 13-13. After a kill from the white club gave them a match point opportunity at 14-13, blue stormed back with three points in a row, including a rare kill in the back row after a dig by their libero on match point.

To close out the preseason, the Bluejays will visit Mountain West Conference favorite Colorado State in an exhibition game next Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Central Time.
