Candidates for city office include (back, left to right) Everardo “Lalo” Zamora, Roy Mata, Ernest Santos, Donald “Mac” McLaughlin, Priscilla Moreno, Hector Luevano and (front) Jennifer Gilleland. The candidates were at City Hall at noon on August 26 for a drawing to determine the order in which their names would appear on the ballot for the respective city offices for which they are running.

In the Uvalde mayoral election, Jennifer Gilleland will be first on the ballot, followed by Hector Luevano and then Everardo “Lalo” Zamora.

The drawing of lots to determine the voting order took place on Monday, August 26, at noon in the town hall.

City Secretary Sorayda Arellano Sanchez supervised the drawing and Human Resources Director Larissa Valverde Rodriguez drew folded numbers.

Ernest Santos is listed first to represent the City Council from District 1, followed by Priscilla Moreno. This is a special election to fill the remaining two years of Zamora’s term as he runs for mayor.

For the full four-year term on the Second District Council, Roy Mata is first named, followed by Donald “Mac” McLaughlin. Luevano currently holds that seat.

Sanchez said the election for District 4 will not take place because Con Mims was the only person to run for the seat. Councilman Stephen Balke, who has reached term limits, currently holds the seat.

Sanchez said Mims will take the oath of office with the election winners in November after the votes are counted.
