By: Mark Searles, Head of Storm Team 10Meteorologist:

Skies will be mostly clear tonight as high pressure settles over the Great Lakes. A rise in the dew point will keep temperatures down to 15 to 20 degrees Celsius tonight. Some fog may also form around sunrise, but it will quickly dissipate as the sun climbs higher. Regardless of the fog, more wildfire smoke from Canada will be responsible for a fiery sunrise in the Northeast. The smoke will stay in the air throughout the day, but similar to Wednesday, it is expected to stay in the middle to upper levels of the atmosphere. The bigger concern in the forecast is the scattered afternoon thunderstorms that could derail any outdoor plans. Showers and thunderstorms will likely show up on the radar between 2 and 5 p.m. Locally heavy rain is possible, potentially causing problems during the evening rush hour. The thunderstorms will subside once the sun goes down.

Friday will bring dry weather again, as will the smoke from the wildfires. A denser aerosol cloud will cover the region and may sink to the surface, which could affect air quality. The beginning of the weekend could see a similar pattern.
