Welcome back, Red Hawks! The fall semester has begun and we are ready to fly higher than ever before. From new spaces on campus to exciting upcoming events, there is a lot to catch up on.

New restaurants!

• Starbucks: Great news, Red Hawks! The long-awaited Starbucks in Sprague Library officially opens its doors on Monday, August 26! Get ready to enjoy all of your favorite Starbucks beverages and treats right in the heart of campus. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee before class or settling in for a study session, this new spot is sure to become a campus favorite. Join us for the grand opening at 10 a.m. to enjoy rehearsals, the ribbon cutting, and speeches. Be among the first to experience this amazing addition!
• 1908 Pub: Get ready for a whole new hangout! 1908 Pub opens on Thursday 12th September in the Rathskeller, affectionately known as “the Rat”. With virtual top golf and rooms open late, this is the perfect place to relax, have fun and meet up with friends. Put it in your calendar and get ready to stop by for some quality time and great vibes!

New and improved shuttle services for you!

• NEW Montclair/Bloomfield Shuttle Service: Starting the first day of school, shuttles will run to and from the Montclair and Bloomfield campuses every 30 minutes Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.! This free service will pick you up and drop you off at Red Hawk Deck (Montclair) and 225 Liberty (Bloomfield), making it easy to travel between our two campuses!
• NEW Night Hawk Shuttle Services: Introducing Night Hawk, the new on-demand shuttle service that will get you to your destination safely and quickly between 10pm and 2am. No more late-night waits! Simply request a ride through the Tripshot app, where you’ll also get 24/7 live updates on shuttle locations, estimated arrival times, routes, and more. Whether you’re coming back from a late class, a study session, or meeting up with friends, Night Hawk is here for you. Enjoy the convenience and peace of mind as you move around campus after hours!

Great Interview Career Tool

Career Services has launched Big Interview, a comprehensive tool designed to help students and alumni improve their interview skills. With Big Interview, you can practice answering questions tailored to your specific industry, get feedback through video recordings, and learn from a library of resources covering everything from body language to answering difficult questions. Ready to ace your next interview?

Blue Envelope Program

The Montclair State University Police Department recently launched the Blue Envelope initiative. This simple yet powerful tool is designed to assist individuals with autism during traffic stops. It includes important documents such as a driver’s license, registration, a contact card, and guidelines to help police officers adjust their communication style. This program aims to improve understanding, reduce anxiety, and streamline communication between officers and drivers with autism, promoting a safer and more inclusive experience on the road! Red Hawk Trail

Montclair has a brand new trail that will improve pedestrian mobility and revitalize a beautiful, underused part of campus! This project was carefully planned to respect the natural landscape and topography of the area and is located along the wooded area parallel to Valley Road. Join us for our Trail Blazing Event on Friday, September 6th at 1:30 p.m., Lot 9, next to the Student Recreation Center, where President Koppel will open the event with a special dedication. Become a part of campus history, enjoy some fresh air, and pick up water, snacks, and stickers while you’re at it! Leave your mark!

NEST interface update

The updated NEST portal launched earlier this summer with tools that make managing your academic life easier and more intuitive than ever. Whether you’re registering for courses, checking your grades, or handling financial aid, NEST offers you a sleek, easy-to-use interface and enhanced features. Rocky and Roxy light up!

Meet the new Rocky and Roxy! Our beloved mascots have a new look and are more spirited than ever. With updated designs that reflect the energy and pride of our Red Hawk community, Rocky and Roxy are ready to cheer us on all year long. Look for them at games, events, and all over campus. With these two at the helm, school spirit is at an all-time high! Get ready to rock with Rocky and Roxy!

Easier multi-factor authentication called “DUO” is coming soon

We’ve implemented multi-factor authentication (MFA) to improve the security of your online accounts, but we know it’s been challenging. MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring not just your password, but also a second form of verification. That logic will remain, but soon you’ll have an easier way to verify and be able to add more than one device! DUO will launch this fall with detailed messaging in groups by school year. Stay tuned!

Free Calm subscription for students!

ICYMI: Get your free *student-only* subscription to Calm, brought to you by Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and supported by the State of New Jersey through the Mental Health in Higher Education: Community Provider Partnership Grant. Email Ivana Drazin Ivelja at [email protected] from your Montclair student email address with a request to join Calm! You will receive instructions to begin downloading the Calm app and logging into your account. Once registered, you can add up to five (5) friends or family members (ages 16+) through the Manage Subscription page.
