Around early to mid-October, the mountainous part of the Eastern Panhandle is at its most colorful. This includes Pocahontas and Pendleton Counties and all the way to Hampshire County.

Mid-October is when fall colors are most prominent across the state, including central West Virginia and the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Across the state, fall colors are likely to be at or past their peak by late October or early November, with the Charleston area down to the southernmost part of West Virginia and the Panhandles reaching their peak last compared to the rest of the state.
