Tenmile Distillery is a purpose-built American single malt operation operating on a converted 100-year-old dairy farm in Wassaic, New York. Master distiller Shane Fraser leads the distilling team here, using high-quality Scotch single malt-focused distilling equipment from Forsyths in Rothes, Scotland. Fraser is a veteran of the Scotch world, having started his career at Royal Lochnagar in 1990 and, before joining Tenmile, worked at the “start-up distillery” Wolfburn, where he was able to “develop the kind of whisky he wanted to produce, in the way he wanted to produce it.”

Tenmile’s whisky focus under Fraser’s leadership is specifically on single malt. This includes using 100% New York grain grown locally by New York State farmers, a 7-day fermentation and slow distillations, “with the wash and spirit runs taking the entire working day.”

The distillery’s current range of American single malts falls under their ‘Little Rest’ range, so named “because there is a steep hill near the distillery which used to require an extra horse to pull a full cart uphill. A hamlet was created at the top of the hill so that horses and coachmen could have a little rest.”
