Why did the Disney Plus logo change color?

The Disney Plus logo has been redesigned in the Apple App Store and Microsoft Apps and is now teal and white.

The color palette of the app icon of the Walt Disney Company’s streaming service has been dark blue since its launch on November 12, 2019.

Only Google Play has not given the app the blue-green update.

Disney has yet to provide an explanation for the recent color change on Disney Plus, but there is some speculation as to why this happened.

The main reason for the color shift is likely the ongoing merger of Disney Plus with Hulu, which began earlier this year. Since December, Disney Bundle users have had access to a beta version of the merged streams, allowing them to use the Disney Plus app to watch Hulu content, which tends to appeal to an older age group than usual Disney entertainment. The new teal color palette for Disney Plus, which combines Disney blue with Hulu green, is likely a prelude to the one-app experience that will launch later this month.

The color change could potentially be a result of the Walt Disney Company’s current messaging and the transition of Disney+ from a family-friendly brand to one that appeals to a wider range of consumers.

Another reason is that other apps like Paramount+ and Max also use blue and white for their logos. They may be taking this measure to make their app stand out from the crowd of app logos.

While Disney+’s new teal look is purely cosmetic for now, it’s clear that the Disney+ of 2019 isn’t the same streamer as it will be in 2024, and there will likely be more changes to come.
