The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 officially premieres on August 29th on Prime Video. The epic fantasy series, based on JRR Tolkien’s iconic world, delves deeper into the events of the Second Age, including the return of Sauron and the creation of the Rings of Power. Season 1, while controversial among fans of Tolkien and Peter Jackson’s original film series, was a huge audience success and made Rings of Power one of the biggest new series of recent years. Now season 2 is set to increase the tension, as Middle Earth descends into chaos after it turns out that the supposed King of the Southlands, Halbrand, is actually the dark ruler Sauron.


Season 2 of The Rings of Power picks up several storylines from the first season, including the cruel transformation of the Southlands into the fiery wasteland of Mordor. The Orcs’ struggle to make Mordor their home is led by Adar, a corrupted elf who became one of the first Uruk.. Although it is confirmed that Adar will return as a villain in the upcoming season, audiences will notice something different about the character. While Joseph Mawle played Adar in the first season of The Rings of Powerin season 2, Sam Hazeldine takes on the role instead. While antagonists like Sauron and Saruman are categorically evil, Adar is a surprisingly caring general to his Orc army, treating them almost like a father would his children. Joseph Mawle’s gentle portrayal added to Adar’s character nuances, making it all the more surprising that the game of Thrones Actor will not return for season 2. It seems that Mawle has decided to leave the series, with the actor explaining his exit on Twitter. In a post that shortly followed the announcement that he would not return for season 2, The Rings of Power‘s next season, Mawle claimed he enjoyed his time on the show but felt he needed to explore new characters and stories in his careerTo ensure that there was no animosity between him and the series, the actor spoke to the cast and crew of The Rings of Power before you log off.


Mawle is not the only actor from The Rings of Powerwho will not appear in future episodes. Nazanin Boniadi has also left The Rings of Power before its second season. Boniadi, who played Bronwyn in Season 1, has reportedly retired from acting to pursue other aspects of her career. Unlike Mawle, Boniadi’s role has not been recast for the upcoming season, with the series instead holding out hope for the actress’ return at a later date. It may be that Adar was simply too important a character to write out of Season 2, forcing the showrunners to recast the role rather than wait for Mawle’s schedule to clear. As for his desire to pursue other stories and characters, Mawle appeared in several episodes of the Taylor Sheridan series. 1923 and will play the main role in the biblical epic The path of the wind.

Tom Bombadil, a popular character from JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series, will make his live-action debut in the second season of Rings of Power.


It is unclear exactly what form Adar’s storyline will take The Rings of Power Season 2. It’s likely that the series will take the time to explore more of Adar’s origin story in future episodes. In Season 1, it was hinted at a shared past between the Uruk and Sauron. Sauron believes that Adar has wronged him. Season 2 could finally reveal what Adar did to anger Sauron. As Sauron rises to conquer Middle-earth, Adar may find himself in a difficult position, especially given his past with the Dark Lord. Season 2 could show Sauron taking control of the Orcs, which would almost certainly include Adar’s death.The downfall of the Orc leader is inevitable and the upcoming season of The Rings of Power can finally show what happens when someone gets in Sauron’s way.
