Why doesn’t Mookie Betts stay at the Dodgers team hotel in Milwaukee?

Mookie Betts isn’t taking any chances when it comes to rumbles in Milwaukee at night this week. Instead, Betts told reporters Monday he’s staying at a local Airbnb because the Dodgers’ team hotel is rumored to be haunted.

For the second year in a row, Betts has chosen not to stay with the team at the Pfister Hotel. The Pfister Hotel was built in 1893 and has long been rumored to be haunted. Players from other franchises have claimed to have had encounters with ghosts.

Betts wants nothing to do with it.

The former MVP has spent time at the Pfister Hotel in the past and noted that he had not had any paranormal experiences. However, every little noise made him nervous. He was constantly afraid.

“You can tell me what happened after that,” he said last year. “I just don’t want to find out myself.”

His views on the paranormal are still the same.

“No. That will not change,” he said when asked this year.

After missing the last eight weeks with a broken hand and a restful night away from the Paranormal, Betts delivered a spectacular performance Monday night in his first game since returning from the injured list.

Betts finished the game 2-for-4, with one home run, one run scored and three runs batted in.

In his first at-bat, Betts embarrassed himself when he struck out a Freddy Peralta slider that sent him flying across the plate and then dropped him to the ground on a miss. Betts began the game wearing molded cleats, but changed immediately after the strikeout.

“The ground was just too hard,” said Betts. “I embarrassed myself, but that was purely because I had no grip.”

Betts returned the favor in the third inning when he hit a two-run homer over the left outfield wall. He capped off his night with a run-scoring single and a stolen base in the seventh inning.

“Freddy Peralta is a damn good pitcher,” said manager Dave Roberts. “For him to have a night like that against Freddy was great.”

Betts didn’t need any rehab and it looked like he didn’t miss anything.

“We’ve definitely gotten a lot better since we’ve had his name in the lineup,” Roberts said of Betts before Monday’s game. “We’re at a point where we’re putting guys in their respective spots in the order, which adds more length and makes us a better ballclub.”
